Since the onset of COVID 19, negativity has become just as infectious as the virus itself. Not only have social and political tensions been rising, but many individuals are also facing personal economic, and emotional hardships brought on by the pandemic. Musicians in particular are one of the groups of people most negatively affected by this virus. Yet, accomplished reggae singer and songwriter Andrew Bees has been able to not only remain positive during these difficult times but has been continuing to work on his music. In fact, Bees released his new single “Good Trouble Revolution” in 2020, and is working on an album that will be released this year as well.
“Good trouble is when you see something bad happening, and instead of just sitting back you stand up and do something about it”. Yet, Bees emphasized that the themes of compassion in his music were very much present in this song as well, “when you can get involved and be a part of everyone, you can make their trouble be your trouble, and it will work because all we need is people to care for each other”.
According to Bees, the upcoming album will deal very much with “Real life and social matters-matters that everyone has dealt with in their life”. The album will also underline Bees’ call for unity and empathy, “we can understand each other by just believing each other and living in love and harmony together instead of fighting against each other. The album is about unity and strength”.
Through his music, Bees is able to address social issues in a positive and inspiring manner. Through his optimistic and powerful tracks, Bees compels society to simply remember it’s humanity.
Although COVID 19 has split Bees up from some of his band members and forced him to stop all live performances and tours, his positivity never faltered. His response to questions about how the pandemic has affected his life was “We just have to eat healthy, think healthy, take it one day at a time, and appreciate everything”.
In a society that has been riddled with negativity and division for the entirety of 2021, Andrew Bees offers a refreshing and much needed dose of compassion with his music. Be sure to check out his music at https://beeshivemusic.com .
